About the Perth Mint
The Perth Mint has been refining gold bullion for more than 100 years. It was initially set up as a facility in Australia to refine all of the gold that was being mined there. At this time Australia was under the British Empire, and prior to the creation of the Perth Mint, all gold was being sent back to the UK via ship to refine. Initially the Perth Mint's main task was to manufacture gold sovereigns, which were generally accepted at most trading ports around the world.
Today the Perth Mint is known for its wide range of bullion coins and bars that it offers to gold and silver investors. In addition to the Kangaroo series, the Perth Mint manufacture the Lunar series, the Kookaburra and Koala coins, both of which are available in silver, the Platinum Platypus, and the Palladium Emu. The most famous and successful series they release is the Kangaroo.
Investing in Gold Kangaroos
The Kangaroo series was first released as a gold Nugget coin in 1986, however, in 1989 the image was updated to depict a Kangaroo. The Kangaroo gold coin series is available in sizes ranging from 1/10 ounce up to 1 Kilogram. It is one of the only gold coins available in sizes larger than 1 ounce. The Kangaroo is also available in silver and in platinum.
One unique feature of the Kangaroo coin is that the image of the Kangaroo is updated annually on it, making these coins popular not only with investors but also with collectors. These coins are 9999 fine, making them 24 karat gold bullion.
Each coin comes in its own capsule to prevent damage and scratching.
Design of the 2021 1/2 Oz Gold Kangaroo
The design of the front of the coin is the same each year. The front features an image of Queen Elizabeth II, with the words 'Elizabeth II' and 'Australia' written around the top. The coin's face value of $50 AUD is located at the bottom.
The reverse side of the coin features an image of a mother and baby Kangaroo standing together in the desert, with some desert palms around them. The top of the coin says 'Australian Kangaroo', and the bottom features the coin's weight, year of minting, fineness and metal type. These 9999 fine gold coins are one of the purest gold coins currently available in the precious metals market.
