Design of the ¼ Ounce 2022 Gold Kangaroo
Each 2022 ¼ ounce old kangaroo coin features a portrait image of Queen Elizabeth II on the front. The words ‘Elizabeth II’ and ‘Australia’ are inscribed at the top of the coin. At the bottom of her portrait is the coin’s face value of $25 Australian Dollars.
The reverse side of the coin features an image of a Red Kangaroo hopping in the desert with its joey by its side. Encircling the top of the coin are its year of minting, size, purity, and metal type. Each ¼ ounce gold coin has a purity of 9999, making these 24 karat gold coins investment grade.
About the Kangaroo Series
The Kangaroo series is the most successful series of gold coins launched by the Perth Mint, and the series is available in gold, silver and platinum. The coin was first launched in a 1 Ounce size in 1986 with an image of a gold nugget, but this was updated two years later to the now iconic Kangaroo image. The gold Kangaroo coin is available in a range of sizes, including 1/10 ounce, ¼ ounce, ½ ounce and 1 ounce. Silver and platinum kangaroo coins are both only available in the 1 ounce size.
One unique feature of the Kangaroo series is that the image of the Kangaroos is updated annually, which gives these coins some collectible and numismatic value in addition to their investment value. For this reason, investors will frequently try to purchase specific years of the coin, and purchase the new designs as soon as they are released.
