Design of the Somalian Elephant Gold Coin
The Somalian Elephant gold coin is manufactured by the Bavarian State Mint on behalf of the Somalian government. The coin features an image of the Somalian coat of arms on the front. A shield with a single star in the center appears in the middle. Beneath the shield are two palm leaves and two spears. The spears point outwards. Standing on the spears and holding the shield on either side are two leopards. The top of the coin says 'Somali Republic'. The coin's year of minting, 2023, is inscribed on either side of the shield. The coin's face value of 100 Shillings can be found at the bottom of the coin.
The reverse side of the coin features an image of an African Elephant pulling leaves off of a branch and eating them. The sun is blazing down and there is a lone Baobab tree standing in the distance. The top of the coin says 'African Wildlife'. The Elephant coin is part of the African wildlife series issued by Somalia. The bottom of the coin features the word 'Elephant' on the left side. The right side features the coin's weight of 1/10 ounce, its purity of 999.9, and its metal type.
About the Somalian Elephant Series
The Somalian Elephant gold coin was first issued in 2004, making the 2023 edition of the coin its 19th release. Each year the image of the Elephant on the front of the coin is updated. This gives the coin some collectible or numismatic popularity and value over just the coin's bullion value.
The coin is manufactured by the Bavarian State Mint, which is one of Germany's five state mints. It also boasts the record as the oldest company in Bavaria, opening its doors in 1180AD. In addition to manufacturing custom bullion products the Bavarian State Mint is also responsible for manufacturing a lot of Euro coins on behalf of the EU.
The African Wildlife series features an Elephant and a Leopard coin series. Both feature a new image each year. The coins are available in gold and silver.
