Design of the 1 Ounce Gold Philharmonic Coin

The front of the coin features an image of the famous Vienna Musikverein's Golden Hall's pipe organ. Written above the image are the words 'Republik Osterreich'. Beneath the image are the coin's size, metal type, purity, year of minting and face value. These coins are made from 9999 fine investment grade gold bullion. This makes the coin one of the purest available on the market for investors. Each Austrian Philharmonic gold coin has a face value of €100. However, coins minted before 2002 are still denominated in Schillings, and have a face value of 2,000 Schillings each.

The reverse of the coin features a composite image of a number of the instruments used in the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra. The words 'Wiener Philharmoniker are imprinted at the top of the coin.

The Gold Philharmonic coin comes in a range of sizes, including 1/25 ounce, 1/10 ounce, 1/4 ounce, 1/2 ounce and 1 ounce sizes.

History of the Philharmonic Gold Coin

The gold Philharmonic was first introduced by the Austrian Mint in 1989. From 1989 to 2002, the coins was released with a face value denominated in Schillings. From 2002 on, (when Austria adopted the Euro) the coin's denomination was changed to Euros. The Philharmonic coin is one of the most popular bullion coins in Europe, and was released in silver in 2008, and in platinum in 2016.

The Philharmonic gold coin is produced by the Austrian Mint, and is the most popular item that they produce.

What is the Austrian Mint

The Austrian MInt (or Munze Osterreich), is one of the most prominent precious metals mints in Europe. The mint is responsible for manufacturing Euro denominated coins for the ECB for the Austrian market as well as for several other countries within the EU. The Austrian Mint can trace its roots back to the 1800s, although the mint as it stands today was founded in 1989. The Austrian Mint's Philharmonic series is its most popular bullion product available on the retail market. The mint also manufactures gold and silver bars for investors, including its very famous Kinebar, which is released with an image of a Leipzeiger Horse on it. In addition to the Philhamonic series, Austria also has the Corona gold coin, which is no longer produced.
