Design of the 2022 SIlver Austrian Philharmonic

The design of the 2022 silver philharmonic coin has been the same since it was first launched in 2008. The front of each coin features a range of musical instruments used by the world-famous Vienna Philharmonic. The words 'Wiener Philharmoniker' and the year of minting are inscribed at the top of the coin.

On the reverse side of each coin, is an image of the organ that stands in the famous Musikverein, or concert hall, located in Vienna. The words 'Republik Osterreich' are inscribed at the top of the coin. At the bottom of the coin is written '1 Ouce Feinsilber', the year of minting, and the coin's face value. Each coin has a legal tender value of €1.50, which is backed by the government of Austria.

What is the Austrian Phiharmonic Coin Series?

The Austrian Philharmonic coin series was first released in 1989 by the Austrian Mint. Initially the coin was released in gold only, however in 2008 a silver Philharmonic coin was released, and in 2016 the coin also became available in platinum. Until the year 2002 the Philharmonic series was denoted in Schillings. However, in 2002, when Austria accepted the Euro as its main currency, the Philharmonic coin was updated to feature its legal tender value in Euros instead. The Austrian Mint is one of the most prominent mints in Europe, and certainly in terms of its manufacturing of bullion coins. The Philharmonic coin series is the main series that is available from the European Union.
