Design of the 2023 Gold Krugerrand Coin
The Krugerrand gold coin is South Africa's official bullion coin. The coin's front features an image of Paul Kruger, South Africa's first president. The word 'South Africa' is inscribed around the top of the coin in both English and Afrikaans, the two official languages of the country.
The reverse side of the coin features an image of an African Springbok, the country's official animal. The word 'Krugerrand' is inscribed at the top, and the coin's year of minting, 2023, is inscribed on either side of the image. The bottom of the coin features its purity and size.
The Krugerrand coin features a slightly copperish tone, which is unique to the coin, and for which it has become quite famous. All gold coins are mixed with another alloy in order to help make the coin more durable. This is because gold is naturally very soft.
