What is the Chinese Panda Gold Coin?
The Chinese Panda gold coin was first released in Ounce sizes, however, in 2016 this was changed to grams. Currently, the coin is available in 5 sizes - 30 grams, 15 grams, 8 grams, 3 grams, and 1 gram. The most popular size is the 30-gram gold coin. The front of the coin features an image of two panda bears playing in the snow. At the top of the coin is written - ’30 g, AU, .999’ This confirms that the coin contains 30 grams of gold which is 999 fine, or 22 karat. The face value of the coin is 500 Yuan, and these coins are guaranteed by or backed by the People’s Bank of China.
The reverse of the coin features a famous temple in Beijing called the Temple of Heaven. Encircling the outside of the coin is written ‘People’s Republic of China’ in Chinese. This coin was first released in 1982, making this year the 40th year that the coin has been issued. As a result, there is a special privy mark ’40’ written on the front of the coin to honour this anniversary. Like the United States, China’s Mints are located in a number of cities, including Beijing, Shenzhen and Shenyang. Each coin has a special mark on it to denote which mint it has been manufactured in. As a result of this, there are sometimes slight differences to the design of these coins depending on what mint they have originated from.
